Another Pond to Be Saved – Lake and Pond Aeration in Action

In Finland we live under illusion that the natural water systems are in very good shape. Actually, a big part of them are at least ok shape, but more and more ponds even lakes, are suffering from several different issues that make the water quality bad.
Low dissolved oxygen as a key symptom
One symptom of the bad water quality is low amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. This happens usually during the winter months, when the ice cover prevents the air from being dissolved to the water but the consumption of DO still takes place in the water. The other problematic season is summer when the water temperature increases and there is no vertical movement in the water temperature layers. In the summertime it is easier to see the situation but during the winter months everything happens under ice cover and this means we do not notice these things that take place.
Installing ClariOx under ice
SansOx told last week about the first project that we installed to one of the Finland’s may ponds. Now it was time to save a pond in area where the ice cover takes over the pond. In the first one this usually does do that. During last weekend we installed ClariOx system to pond under the ice. The ponds area is not too big but the deepest point is 15 meters and there are a lot of solids at the bottom of the pond. ClariOx is installed about 1 meter under ice in order not to mix the solids in the bottom but at the same time increase significantly the DO in the pond. The local University of Applied Sciences will make several measurements during the winter and spring months to see what kind of effect ClariOx has in this case when the DO in increased during the ice cover time.
Impact on fish population
At this pond a couple of years ago, big part of the fish population died during the summer months and now it will be interesting to see what kind of effect this winter DO increase has on fish population next spring and summer.
Adopt a pond or lake
Would you or your company like to “adopt” a pond or lake near your office or factory and make the quality of that water system better? Contact info@sansox.fi and let’s talk.
